Taking Antibiotics Probiotics Together Is Acceptable
The old adage that there are as many opinions as there are minds can easily be applied to probiotics usage when trying to gain the correct, and proper, information. Especially since we, here in the West, have for many generations now made use of antibiotics to fight against infectious diseases. This is a good thing, yes?
Well, the answer to that question is a possible maybe. Although modern science has produced some wonder drugs eliminating many diseases that before the advent of antibiotics, this particular cure also has manifested itself somewhat as a curse, too.
Antibiotics are not discriminating killers. Not at all.
The body, in particular the intestinal tract, needs a balance of good and bad bacteria for the human immune system to work efficiently. Antibiotics attack all bacteria – good as well as bad.
Therefore, a great deal of research has centered on the effects, and benefits, from a daily supplement of probiotics to help maintain that needed balance.
There are two types of bacteria that the experts state are extremely important for healthy living. These are lactobacilli, found primarily in the small intestine and bifidobacteria, found mostly in the large intestine, particularly the colon. If these two helpful bacteria flourish or are helped to flourish, they both provide protection against a number of illnesses and diseases, improving the body’s health.
Throughout recent history, medical professionals have depended greatly upon issuing antibiotics to battle a great number of illnesses. Unfortunately, many harmful, or bad bacteria, are clever little organisms, developing mutated strains that become immune to many modern-day antibiotics.
Probiotics will help the development of good bacteria while antibiotics attack all bacteria, even the helpful, good bacteria that are necessary for everyday healthy living. Probiotics produce the proteins, called bacterions, that single out the harmful bacteria present in the intestinal tract while also promoting the production of white blood cells that aid the body’s immune system toward maintain a healthy chemical balance.
This balance is important and, due to what many experts claim has been an overuse, has been thrown off kilter by mankind’s dependency on antibiotics throughout the 20th century.
Antibiotics are an important aspect in providing the proper medical care in today’s society. There is no movement to rid the world of these life-saving elements. However, through daily use of probiotics, especially during antibiotics therapy, or right after, that all-so-necessary chemical balance is maintained in the body’s immune system, helping to eliminate a good deal of side effects cause through antibiotic therapy.
Probiotics stave off the growth of a variety of offending organisms like clostridia, E. coli, salmonella, shigella and candida albicans, a form of yeast. These nasty organisms attempt to attach themselves to the intestinal tract walls where they become absorbed and consequently cause a number of ailments including diarrhea. Both good and bad bacteria compete not only for nutrients in the body, but space as well. Probiotics provide a barrier toward denying the harmful organisms from finding that space as well as compete with them for the nutrients available promoting growth.
So, consider, when taking antibiotics probiotics to help balance out the bacteria. Also, always consult a physician before introducing any supplement to your daily diet.
